The POV Density Checklist
A Fast Test for Judgment-Rich Content (Chapter 06)
This checklist exists to answer one question:
Is this content carrying judgment—or just information?
Use it before publishing, during reviews, or in audits. This should take 5–7 minutes per page.
How to Use This Checklist
- Read the page once without editing
- Answer instinctively
- Do not “fix” while scoring
POV density is about concentration, not length.
Section 1: Assertion Density
Answer Yes / No
- Does the page state a clear position in the first 15%?
- Can the core belief be underlined in one sentence?
- Is there at least one statement someone could reasonably disagree with?
- If the assertion were removed, would the page collapse?
Score: ___ / 4
If you score ≤2, the page does not have a spine.
Section 2: Judgment vs Explanation Ratio
Scan the page and count roughly.
- Judgment statements (claims, positions, recommendations): ___
- Explanatory statements (definitions, background, context): ___
Rule of thumb:
Judgment should be ≥30–40% of the content.
If explanation dominates, AI will decide for the reader.
Section 3: Tradeoff Clarity
Answer Yes / No
- Does the page explicitly say what this approach optimizes for?
- Does it explicitly say what it sacrifices?
- Are limits or failure modes named?
- Does the page avoid “everything depends” language?
Score: ___ / 4
No tradeoffs = no responsibility = no trust.
Section 4: Resolution Strength
Answer Yes / No
- Does the page tell the reader what to believe now?
- Does it narrow options rather than expand them?
- Is there a clear “do this / don’t do that” moment?
- Would a reader know what to do next without asking?
Score: ___ / 4
If resolution is vague, the page educates but abandons.
Section 5: AI Survivability
Answer Yes / No
- If summarized in three sentences, would our POV survive?
- Would an AI likely quote us—or just extract facts?
- Is the framing specific enough to resist compression?
Score: ___ / 3
If the POV doesn’t survive synthesis, it won’t compound.
Interpretation Guide
| Total Score | Meaning |
|---|---|
| 0–6 | Informational content (raw material) |
| 7–11 | Mixed — ranking but leaking leverage |
| 12–15 | Judgment-present but soft |
| 16–19 | Strong POV density |
| 20+ | Decision-shaping asset |
The Non-Negotiable Rule
No page ships unless it scores at least 15.
Editors are empowered to block publication below this threshold.
The Cultural Signal
If this checklist feels “too strict,”
that’s because the old standard was too low.
Judgment density—not word count— is what compounds.
Use this until it becomes instinct.
